Description:
Entity PL-5 also known as Electric Fireflies are fireflies (Lampyris Noctiluca) that generate electricity at varying rates. There are several varieties of fireflies that differ in appearance and behavior towards wanderers and other creatures.
Biology:
All Electric Fireflies have practically the same body structure as the Frontrooms ones, but instead of normal light-producing organs, they possess electrical charges that sustain the Electric Fireflies' lives with the energy they generate. They are all capable of harnessing their electrical energy, which allows them to attack wanderers or other entities with single lightning bolts. If an entity does not emit light, it means it is not alive.
Female insects lay their eggs near electrical outlets and in damp, dark places. The young hatch after 7–14 days. These entities eat plants, rotten meat, various types of airborne pollen, and electricity, which they can draw from electrical devices. Electric Fireflies live for up to two years, but interference from humans or other entities can shorten their lifespan by as much as three-quarters.
Types of Electric Fireflies can be distinguished based on the color of light they emit, their power output during an attack, their speed, size, and behavior1. There are individuals such as:
| Color Of Light | Unit Of Power | Speed | Size |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yellow | 30 volts and 3 amps | 145 kph | 1 cm |
| Green | 100 volts and 6 amps | 140 kph | males 1-1,5 cm / females 1,5-2 cm |
| Red | 233 volts | 144 kph | males 1,5-2 cm / females 2-2,5 cm |
| Blue | 95 volts and 2 amps | 140 kph | 2 cm |
| Purple | 279 volts and 7 amps | 129 kph | males 2-2,5 cm / females 2,5 cm |
| Orange | 116 volts and 3 amps | 151 kph | males 1-1,5 cm / females 1,5-2 cm |
Behavior:
Behavior toward wanderers and other entities depends on the type of insect. It is known that Electric Fireflies understand what explorers and other creatures say to them. The relationship between different species of insects appears to be friendly, and they reproduce even though they belong to different species.
All species of fireflies differ in their behavior:
| Color Of Light | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Yellow | Yellow Electric Fireflies are known as "young ones"; they show no signs of intelligence and follow only food. In this way, every insect chooses its attitude toward the world, wanderers, and other entities that will guide it throughout its entire life. After one to two weeks, the entities change the color of their light once they have decided on their life path. This change causes a structural transformation in the fireflies, affecting their behavior, unit of power, speed, and size. The choices young people make can be influenced by wanderers and other entities through various, often unconscious, interactions. Insects only attack when they are attacked and they eat rotten meat and plants. |
| Green | The green variant of Electric Fireflies is relatively friendly toward wanderers and other entities. When wanderers need help, these guide them to the nearest level's exit. They mostly feed on plants and electricity, while rejecting rotten meat. This species only attacks when it is attacked. |
| Red | Electric Fireflies that emit a red light are considered the opposite of green ones. At first glance, they seem to be friendly toward wanderers and friendly entities. However, when the time comes for them to help, the Red Electric Firefly, instead of leading the wanderer or friendly entity to the exit, will put them in danger, such as: a hostile entity, a place that could cause harm, a level with a "Deadzone" survival difficulty, or a trap from which there is no escape. Although fireflies lead to hostile entities, the insects themselves avoid contact with such beings. Importantly, if a wanderer or entity refuses to follow the Electric Firefly, the insect will begin to attack with its deadly electric shocks. This species also attacks when it is attacked or provoked. |
| Blue | Blue Electric Fireflies usually take no interest in wanderers and other entities. Whenever anyone or anything asks the insect for help, it will ignore them and fly away. This species only attacks when it is attacked. |
| Purple | The purple variant of Electric Fireflies attacks every living creature it encounters. All attempts to communicate with these species have always ended in failure. They mostly feed on electricity and rotten meat while avoiding plants. |
| Orange | Insects that emit an orange glow avoid any contact with wanderers and other entities. Usually, when they spot another living creature, they run as far away as possible. Because of their behavior, little is known about their diet and other related details. Orange Electric Fireflies use their electric charge only for self-defense. |
Discovery
Entity PL-5 was discovered on January 10, 1980, on Level PL-15 by the Polish Scientists' Collective Backrooms, near the level's exit. The group came across a yellow type of insect, which they initially thought was a normal firefly. However, after five days, the group discovered the true nature of these beings and classified them as entities.
Do's and Dont's:
Do:
- When you're around the yellow variant of Electric Fireflies, try to stay positive and optimistic. This can help them develop in a positive direction.
- Feel free to ask Green Electric Fireflies for help, they’ll be happy to assist you.
- Avoid insects that emit a red or purple glow.
- If you come into contact with a hostile Electric Firefly, hide in a dry place.
Don't:
- Attack the Electric Fireflies.
- Displaying negative emotions around the yellow variety of insects — this may adversely affect their development (such as their transformation into a Red or Purple Electric Firefly).
- Approach the Entity PL-5 emitting red or purple light.
- Stay close to electrical devices, water, and metal objects while running away from the hostile Electric Firefly.
