Entity Number: 12-ID

Habitat: Around Tongue Fern

Description

Invisible Bugs are insects that cannot be seen by the naked eye. However, when near a colony, a buzzing sound can be heard, similar to the sound of insect wings. The number of insects in a colony cannot be estimated, but the smallest confirmed colony covers an area of 5x5x4 meters. Uniquely, it has been confirmed that there are several Tongue Ferns of the same type around the colony. Tongue Ferns within the Invisible Bug colony will undergo changes, namely more active movement and weaker glue.

Unfortunately, some survivors still doubt the existence of Invisible Bugs and believe more in the existence of a sound phenomenon. As a result, an experiment was conducted using mosquito repellent1 at the suspected insect colony site. The results showed the disappearance of the buzzing sound, confirming the presence of the Invisible Bug. To date, there are 15 large colonies spread across locations where Tongue Fern can grow.

Behavior

Due to its nature, the behavior of the Invisible Bug can only be confirmed from its interaction with the Tongue Ferns around it. From observations, it is believed that the entity obtains food from the glue produced by the Tongue Fern in exchange for part of the colony. However, the number of insects in the colony does not seem to decrease, which is believed to be due to rapid reproduction. The Invisible Bug also never shows aggressive behavior towards anyone. If one of the Tongue Ferns is removed, part of the colony will follow wherever the Tongue Fern is taken, while the rest of the colony that does not go will move to another Tongue Fern nearby.

Biology

Due to its invisible nature, the biological form of the Invisible Bug cannot be accurately described and can only be speculated upon based on evidence. It is estimated that its body is the size of a regular mosquito, with its entire body being translucent. The fluid inside its body is clear, although some believe that its body contains no fluid and that the fluid found is Tongue Fern glue that is being digested. To date, staining experiments on the Invisible Bug to see its body shape cannot be performed without damaging its body.

Theory

There are many theories still being debated regarding the nature, behavior, and biology of the Invisible Bug. Here are some of the most well-known theories:

  • Invisible Bug Queen: This theory believes that there is a kingdom structure similar to that usually found in bees and ants. This theory also states that each colony has one queen. According to this theory, each Tongue Fern is inhabited by one queen.
  • Colony Graveyard: This theory explains how the Invisible Bug behaves when it escapes the Tongue Fern trap. Old or dead insects are placed on the Tongue Fern's trap leaves and become food for the plant. Afterwards, younger insects will eat the sweet glue produced by the Tongue Fern to feed on the trapped insects.
  • Eaten: This theory is quite well-known and is often used as a joke among survivors. It states that every living creature in the Backroom has accidentally eaten 1000 Invisible Bugs. This has led to jokes such as “You've eaten a lot of bugs” or “Shut your mouth before you reach 1 million” being directed at people who talk a lot.

All these theories are merely speculation without supporting evidence, though they still have a high likelihood of being true.

Do's and Don'ts

Do's:

  • Wear a mask when near a colony of Invisible Bugs, unless you want to eat them.
  • Be quiet

Don'ts:

  • Talk a lot or open your mouth frequently around Invisible Bugs.
  • Bring Tongue Ferns within Invisible Bug colonies to Bases, Posts, or Communities because their voices are very disturbing.
