Hampi in the care of a survivor
Description
Hampi is an amorphous entity with a shiny black color that resembles a metallic amoeba, although some of Hampi individuals are completely black and do not reflect light. The entity is known by various names among survivors, such as: Black Slime, Dimension Eater, Stranded Void, Walking Asphalt, etc. It was once targeted for hunting due to the “cuteness” of its behavior before this practice eventually ceased following the revelation of its unique properties.
Behavior
Hampi is usually found living in groups. It has a high social attitude and can live in a colony by forming a large cluster consisting of all Hampi individuals that are fused together. Hampi will perform noclip if it feels threatened, and there are no reports of it attempting to fight back. It'll also flee if it sees another entity trying to attack it, but will try to interact with anything it does not consider dangerous. Hampi is also known as a shy yet curious entity; it'll observe anything that catches its attention and then try to interact with it.
Hampi is known to be friendly and docile towards humans, as seen in how it greets and gathers near survivors who approach it. Hampi loves to play and will consume anything given to it by survivors, making it not much different from a typical pet. However, if it feels threatened, it'll flee and remain gone for some time before eventually reappearing at its previous location. Because Hampi is easily tamed and tends to be loyal, many survivors attempt to keep it as a pet.
Biology
Hampi come in various sizes, ranging from the size of an orange to that of a basketball. It's unknown what Hampi is made of and what its texture is like because it can't be touched. It can pass through anything that blocks its path, including human bodies without the person being aware of it. It can also float on air or dive through floors at will which is why people call it the “Living Void” because the entity is like a living “gap to the void” that can go anywhere. However, Hampi can still interact with objects physically, although this only lasts for a moment (usually to push something, such as nudging a glass off a table). Hampi will devour anything given to it, and the item will simply disappear inside its body. It also known to not need rest and will remain active all the time.
Discovery
Hampi is believed to have existed in the Backrooms for a long time, but was only discovered recently as human exploration efforts continued to expand and accidentally interacted with the entity. Initially, humans were wary of it, believing it to be a threat. However, after survivors attempted to interact with the entity, it then targeted to be kept as pets due to its docile and non-hostile behavior. But, the practice of keeping the entity as pets was eventually discouraged after its unique properties was discovered.
Additional Information
The presence of this entity is a sign of danger for survivors—it indicates that an area is non-Euclidean or contains spatial distortions, so survivors are advised to immediately leave the area if they find this entity gathering there. This entity is very interested in “reality damage” and will gather in the surrounding area until the source of the damage disappears on its own. It's still unknown whether they repair the damage or just gather, but what is certain is that they are not affected by spatial distortion disturbances. Using this entity as a marker is recommended but bringing it home isn't, as it will confuse other survivors about its existence.
Another point to remember is that when the unique property of Hampi is active, it has unique property similar to the Pillar of Creation, where the entity is capable of producing unusual structures in an area it occupies/passes through. Although not as severe as the Pillar of Creation, the entity should still be watched out for because anything it touches will change completely from what it should be, such as changing material A into material B just by touching it. This makes the entity extremely dangerous to humans, as it can easily and unknowingly penetrate survivors' bodies. If a large group of this entity gather, they will be able to produce a structure of clumped objects with a composition similar to that of the Pillar of Creation. The anomaly property can be activated either intentionally or unintentionally; anything can activate this property on its own, so being near the entity can be dangerous.
The unique property and original characteristic were initially discovered in an email sent to a group of survivors at Mega Langit Bridge. At first, this email seemed suspicious and difficult to believe, but after following the information in the email to prove its authenticity, it turned out that the information in the email was true. The group then spread the information to other survivor groups, and it quickly spread to various survivor colonies in the Backrooms. Initially, many were skeptical, but after direct verification efforts and the occurrence of casualties, activities involving the use of Hampi as a pet entity decreased drastically.
Do's and Don'ts
- The best option is to stay away from it. Baiting it with food should be avoided as it'll cause the entity to follow you.
- Survivors who have already taken it in should return the entity to its original place, or take it to a non-Euclidean area and leave it there.
- Use the entity as a marker for the existence of a non-Euclidean area.
