Description
Alvus’s layout can be described as an endless collection of rooms and corridors decorated in various architectural styles (the most prominent being the suburban styles of the United States and the United Kingdom on Earth), all of which are presumed to span millions of kilometers. The level’s architecture is, by and large, quite confusing and difficult to grasp, with a chaotic array of architectural elements serving as the level’s primary components, such as:
- Randomly segmented corridors, which often lead to dead ends or irregularly placed doors,
- Highly disorienting labyrinthine corridors,
- Complex staircases that appear to have been built haphazardly,
- Vertical passages that are clearly difficult to traverse without the proper equipment,
- Unstable walls that can be passed through (noclip).
In addition, the furniture on this level often reflects the level’s unusual architectural style. Some pieces of furniture have been found upside down and hanging from the ceiling; some appear more intricate and disproportionate than they should be; and it’s also known that survivors could noclip on some of them. The level design is quite ordinary; all walls in this level are painted a brilliant titanium white, and the floors are typically brown or white. The walls are mostly made of brick, though some areas feature a change in material to polished steel or aluminum. The floors are made of ceramic and concrete, sometimes covered with carpet and sometimes left bare. Lighting can be found throughout the level, coming in the form of lamps or other devices capable of producing light, often spaced just a few meters apart. However, in some areas, no light sources can be found, leaving dark areas in the level. There are no windows in this level, so it is assumed to be entirely indoors.
A variety of different items can be found scattered throughout Alvus, such as Almond Water, Royal Ration, Firesalt, Cashew Water, and many more. Several Wi-Fi hotspots can also be found in Alvus, all of which have a fairly strong connection. If a survivor picks up an item, the same item will reappear after a short while in the same spot, leading people to believe that the supply of items here will never run out even if they are constantly being taken. Bookshelves are also common in Alvus, but they do not always contain books. However, if someone finds a book, opening it reveals that all the pages are filled with random, unreadable characters, making these books undesirable to survivors.
While the design and color schemes remain consistent across all levels, the architectural and structural themes can deviate significantly from this consistency. The combination of rooms intended to serve as hospitals, offices, schools, bedrooms, and factories forms a general layout of numerous spaces; this results in a unique spatial chaos that defines Alvus’s distinct aesthetic. This chaotic room structure influences the items found in Alvus’s rooms, resulting in a wide and diverse range of materials that can be extracted from Alvus in close proximity to one another—even though their locations should be distinct from one another.
Entity
Alvus is inhabited by several types of entities that are fairly common in the Backrooms, however, Alvus features an unique entity that is highly distinctive and defines the identity of this level. Alvus is the primary home of one type of entity: a dangerous species known as “Manstria”. Known for its ability to shapeshift and blend into its surroundings, it becomes the greatest threat in Alvus. This shapeshifting ability could happen because most of its body consists of a special type of cellular tissue called “placenta”—which is highly flexible and elastic. They can also change their color in the same way as a chameleon, using a hormonal system to release pigments that alter their skin color. Both the placental tissue and the pigments are easily controlled by the Manstria; because of this control, they are also able to heal themselves from injuries very quickly.
Discovery
A survivor known as “Rizu” first discovered this level while searching for a temporary shelter in a building that has since been sealed off at the Mega Langit Bridge. After entering a door, he found himself in an unfamiliar level and became even more distressed when he realized he couldn’t return to the Mega Langit Bridge. He decided to explore Alvus and document everything he encountered there until he finally managed to escape the level about 5 years later. Upon his return to the Mega Langit Bridge, Rizu compiled all his data into a first draft of a report on Alvus and submitted it to the nearest group of survivors. This group became interested in the nature of the level and coordinated several expeditions to Alvus to gather more detailed information about it and map the level.
A base for this group of survivors has been established in Sector A near the entrance; this base was set up to assist survivors who will explore this level in the future. Thanks to their efforts, the establishment of living quarters has proven successful after a well-documented path system was set up among the relatively dense concentration of staircases and rooms. This level quickly became a hotspot for survivors looking to restock their supplies due to its ability to generate an unlimited supply of resources; this also turned it into a new trading hub frequently visited by survivors from various levels across the Backrooms. The Manstria have repeatedly undertaken various exploration and territory-conquest efforts to make this level safe for survivors to inhabit and to turn it into a gathering place for survivors scattered throughout the Backrooms.
Additional Information: The Closure of Alvus
Due to the constant visits by the survivors, the Manstria have unexpectedly become more intelligent than usual; this is because they have been observed studying the lives of the human survivors. They succeeded in mimicking the survivors’ way of life and developed new hunting methods to attack them. Although they initially faced resistance from the survivors, the Manstria managed to find a way to suppress the survivors’ resistance and regain control of several areas within the level that had previously been taken over by the survivors. As a result of the drastic increase in deaths within the level, the majority of survivors agreed to seal off access to this level permanently.
Entrance and Exit
Entrance
- Access prohibited.
Exit
- Only in Sector Y, survivors could find a white door that resembles the entrance door in both appearance and properties. Exiting through it will return survivors to the Mega Sky Bridge. This door is difficult to find without guidance; however, thanks to the efforts of the survivors, various signs have been placed around the level to direct survivors to the exit.
