Great Sky

A yellowish-blue sky stretches endlessly as far as the eye can see; layers upon layers of clouds cover everything below, and the expanse of billowing clouds that resembles frozen ocean waves has become the defining feature of this highly sought-after level. Great Sky is one of the levels where survivors cannot move around because it’s situated above the sky, and there’s nowhere else to stand except for a small room that serves as the entrance to this level. The sun, which remains stationary, along with its orange glow enveloping the entire landscape, creates the impression of a stagnant late afternoon. Strangely, there is absolutely no wind, so the clouds seem locked in place and show no change in shape, as if signaling that time stands still and refuses to affect the fragile form of the clouds.

Further exploration is impossible because no one is willing to venture outside the room that serves as the gateway to this level; gravity still operates within the level, meaning the risk of falling remains, but the lack of clarity about what lies below makes people reluctant to risk their lives for the sake of knowledge. Great Sky is so serene and seems untouched by human hands; it is simply a vast, peaceful landscape that brings tranquility to those who behold it. Therefore, survivors can only admire it from within the room that serves as the gateway to Great Sky.

The Room

This small room is styled like a hotel room, complete with furniture. A large window offers a crystal-clear view of the Great Sky beyond; it can be opened to view this level from a different perspective—survivors will discover that this window is actually a hole in the sky. A limited number of electrical outlets are available; cleaning supplies are strangely tucked away behind the closet; a radio emitting soft static can be heard in the corner of the room; and a stack of worn-out newspapers lies piled on the table. Survivors occasionally visit this room simply to relax or to meet other survivors, with the Great Sky landscape serving as the backdrop for their activities.

There are no significant threats aside from someone’s foolishness in jumping out the window; Great Sky is one of the locations where you can experience Backrooms in its most peaceful state, so there will be no psychological urge from the level to do anything that could harm yourself. In fact, the opposite occurs—the level has a positive effect, though this is merely speculation. Allowing the orange light and cool temperature to envelop the body can reduce mental strain and replenish the physical energy of weary survivors, as if the level has taken on the role of Almon Water. Therefore, anyone standing before Great Sky will feel a sense of peace and shed all negative thoughts from their mind.

Great Sky is like allowing survivors to fly within it—though not physically—yet a soothing sense of freedom can be felt, as if the level is swallowing up all the anxiety experienced by the survivors. Thus, a dramatic prose emerges and is commonly used to broadly describe the level: Great Sky is like a friend who will help you in your worst moments and listen to all your complaints; it may not say much, but at least it lets you feel its soothing presence, even if only from a distance.”

Entrances and Exits

The room where you can view Great Sky can be found inside a house in Industrial Suburbia, in one of the buildings on Mega Langit Bridge, and, if you’re lucky, in one of the rooms on various apartment-themed levels. This room will be the only way in and out of the level. The location and directions to this room are usually marked, making it easy to find—except for many locations that haven’t been marked at all.
