Endless Waiting

Endless Waiting is a series of small rooms and hallways that serve as waiting areas and are arranged in a straight line. Each room and corridor features a distinct style that influences the overall appearance of the furniture within its respective area. Survivors will find a small group of Facelings sitting neatly on the chairs as if they are waiting for something; they are usually found near a door that cannot be opened. This level leaves a strong impression of monotony on survivors due to its static, silent, and empty environment, with no variation in room structures. CRT televisions and radios can be found rarely throughout the level, but they only broadcast noisy static. Pots containing plants are considered to provide a slight touch of life within the level; strangely, they seem to require no nutrients and show absolutely no growth.

All building structures and furniture are arranged in an endless straight line, with the end of the corridor shrouded in dark shadows; survivors feel compelled to keep walking through the corridor without any sign of progress on their journey. The Facelings seem to have turned into silent statues, seemingly oblivious to the existence of the survivors passing through that single corridor; they appear to have drifted into a state of waiting, with no end in sight. Survivors might grow weary from the journey and sit on one of the chairs; unfortunately, sitting on a chair offers neither refreshment nor energy restoration. Instead, the survivor will grow restless over something they themselves cannot pinpoint. Therefore, sitting on a chair is not recommended, and it is far better for the survivor to simply sit on the cold floor.

Randomly, there will be a hallway with a row of windows on one side; the view seen is known to vary for everyone who witnesses it. Some report an urban view devoid of human bustle, a view of green mountains complete with a cool breeze entering through the ventilation gaps, or a view of the vast ocean with a row of calm waves. The view outside the window is always described as beautiful and soothing to those who witness it, where survivors can linger around the windowed area just to enjoy that sense of calm. The waiting chairs facing the window are known to no longer have any negative effect on the survivors’ mental state; they have transformed into a row of chairs that provide a sense of relaxation and patience for survivors to wait for something they themselves do not know what they are waiting for. It is recommended to avoid the windowed area because it is unknown how long survivors will remain lost in that endless waiting.
